So we asked for good weather and good weather is what we got!
We went to church to replace the leaking roofs on the function room roof at Victoria Road Evangelical Church, Aston, Birmingham.
The roof had been leaking for some time and several roofers had tried to fix the leaks to no avail. When we stripped off the various attempts to fix the roof we found several different layers and several different types of waterproofing. The original roof was a PVC membrane with a fleece back. This leaked soon after being fitted so a roofer put a layer of GRP fibreglass on top. This again leaked after a short time so another roofer felted over the GRP layer with a mineral torch on felt. Again, this leaked so finally somebody coated the roof with a liquid coating system. When this was applied the roof was obviously damp. This stopped the liquid coating from adhering to the felt because of this it started peeling off and leaking again.
It was decided to start afresh and strip off all of the different layers to reveal the timber deck. We could feel under foot that some of the timber boards were damaged so replaced with Structural Moisture Resistant OSB3 boarding where required. We then applied a 2mm torch on underlay felt followed by a 4.5mm black mineral torch on Capsheet. All edging details were also finished in the same material. The air conditioning units were temporarily decommissioned and put to one side of the roof for safe keeping until the roof was completed. They were then recommissioned and put back to working order.
This roofing system carries our standard 15 year manufacturers guarantee.
