A job we completed this week was this flat roof replacement at Scotch Orchard Primary School in Lichfield.
The school estates manager called us wanting to refurbish the roof. They wanted the existing grit removed off the roof membrane, insulation fitted and a new felt roof system. The roof was leaking from some old roof lights that were no longer being used so the customer asked for them to be removed. The roof was the dining hall for the school so was to be in use constantly.
Firstly we had to get a safety scaffold erected to make sure that we were safe and also the general public.
Once the scaffolding was erected we proceeded by removing all the grit and debris off the roof. We then set about dismantling the old roof lights, fitted new joist supporting timbers as required and a new OSB3 board to make the area nice and flat. Once this was removed we primed the roof to aid the felt adhere to the existing waterproofing and applied a layer of Vapour Barrier felt.
We then fitted a layer of 100mm insulation which was glued to the vapour barrier we had applied on to felt roof.
We then applied our standard felt roofing system comprising 2mm torch on underlay felt followed by a 4.5mm black mineral torch on Capsheet. All edging details were also finished in the same material.
This roofing system carries our standard 15 year manufacturers guarantee.
